Olive “Olyve” Pearl (Gates) Wertz Myers

At Home with Jesus -

Olive “Olyve” Pearl (Gates) Wertz Myers, 90, a life-long resident of Mechanicsburg and five year resident of Messiah Village went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.  She was born in Mechanicsburg on Sunday, September 25, 1921 daughter of the late Linden R. and Pearl (Thrush) Gates.

Olyve graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1939.  She was a life-long member of Immanuel Christian & Missionary Alliance Church.  Olyve worked for years as a florist at Deissler’s Flowers in Camp Hill.  She loved all flowers and gardening and was the flower lady at her church.  Olyve had a kind heart, spreading joy to everyone through her flowers and her loving smile.

Olyve’s survivors include her loving children, two daughters: Peggie Hopple and her husband Gordon of Mechanicsburg, Karen Fox and her husband Joseph of Dillsburg; her son: Richard W. Wertz and his wife Linda of Duncannon; four grandsons; eight granddaughters; 25 great grandchildren; her brother: Linden Gates; numerous step children, step grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Among those preceding Olyve in death is her grandson: Brian W. Wertz.

All are welcome to join Olyve’s family at her Gathering of Family and Friends on Friday, January 6, 2012, from 9:30 until time of service at 10:30 at Immanuel Christian & Missionary Alliance Church , 800 South Market Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 with Pastor Terry Smith officiating.  Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Keith Hopple, Mark Hopple, Rick Wertz III, Joseph Fox III, Chad Hopple and David Hopple.  Olyve’s family invites everyone to join them for a Time of Food and Fellowship at her church on Friday following the burial.
