Patricia “Pat” Ann (Long) Hammond, age 81, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019.  Pat was born on Thursday, February 24, 1938 in Baltimore, MD to the late Carl Long and Ruth Iva (Dunlap) Long.  Pat was the widow of Edwin “Stan” Stanton Hammond, whom she married on August 22, 1961, and who died on September 16, 2013.

Pat’s survivors include her two children: Edwin “Ed” Charles Hammond of Mechanicsburg, and Ruth Ellen Hammond of Mechanicsburg.

Pat graduated from Middleburg High School as part of the class of 1956. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and a master’s degree from Bloomsburg University.  Pat retired from Cumberland Valley School District in 1993, after many years of service working as a special education teacher.  She was an advocate for finding cures for juvenile diabetes and autism.  Pat was a former and long-time member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg.  A classical music enthusiast, Pat played the piano and the hammered dulcimer.  She liked classic literature, as well, and her favorite author was Jane Austen.  She enjoyed spending her summers at Central Oak Heights in Milton, PA.  Pat’s playful side adored all things Disney.  Animal Kingdom was her favorite, and she loved the Main Street Electrical Parade at Magic Kingdom.  She and her husband celebrated their 50th anniversary with their family at the Grand Floridian.

All are welcome to join Pat’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Saturday, June 22, 2019, from 2:30 p.m. until time of memorial service at 3:30 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating.  Interment will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.  Cremation was private.  Pat’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Hoss’s Steak and Sea House in Mechanicsburg following the interment.
