Patricia “Patti” (Lunn) Smith, age 71, of Carlisle , and formerly of Mechanicsburg , died at Forest Park Health Center and Rehabilitation on Friday, January 9, 2015.  Patti was born on Saturday, June 12, 1943 in Kane, PA to the late Leon Elmer Lunn and Kathryn (Jones) Lunn.

Patti’s survivors include her loving husband of almost 51 years, Robert “Bob” Bennett Smith; her two sons: Lt. Col. (Ret) Michael Porter Smith and his wife, Amy, and step-daughter, Molly, of O’Fallon, Illinois, Jeffrey Lunn Smith and his children, Ben and Katie, of Mechanicsburg; and her sister, Joan Lunn Hirning, of New Jersey.

Patti graduated from Mansfield Jr./Sr. High School as part of the class of 1961, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, a French horn player in the band, and a participant in district chorus.  She also graduated from Bucknell University in 1965.  Patti was a long-time member of Silver Spring Presbyterian Church in Mechanicsburg where she enjoyed being a member of the choir.  She was a past president of the American Association of University Women ( AAUW ), a past president of the Westover Civic Association , and she served as the Hampden Township Representative to the Fredricksen Library. She enjoyed her membership and participation in numerous bridge clubs and bridge tournaments.  Patti might be most remembered for her life-long love and devotion to dogs and especially the more than 250 dogs that she and her husband fostered over the years.  There is no doubt that her canine family joyously greeted her at Rainbow Bridge .

All are welcome to join Patti’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Saturday, January 17, 2015, from 1:30 p.m. until time of service at 2:30 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Bebb Wheeler Stone officiating.  Patti’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Warm Hearts Café , next to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, immediately following the services.  Cremation was private and scattering will be at the convenience of the family.

The family suggests memorial contributions to The Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance (CPAA) , 180 Walden Way, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050 ; or the Humane Society of Harrisburg , 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111; or Alzheimer’s Association - Greater Pennsylvania Chapter , 3544 North Progress Avenue, Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA  17110 .

The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to everyone at Forest Park Health Center & Rehabilitation who so lovingly cared for Patti during her illness.
