Pauline “Polly” (Slakoper) Pestrock, age 84, of Hershey , PA , died peacefully at home and surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 3, 2015. Pauline was born on Friday, August 7, 1931 in Coaldale, PA to the late Louis Slakoper and Josephine (Kurinec) Slakoper. Pauline was the widow of Nicholas Pestrock who died on June 4, 2014.
Pauline’s survivors include her three daughters: JoAnn Pantages and her husband, Paul, of Pittsburgh, Patty Cline of Hummelstown, Natalie Murphy of Palmyra; her six grandchildren: Dean Pantages and his wife, Leiren, Christa Pantages, Alex Pantages, Rachel Cline, Janelle Cline, and Thomas Murphy; and her two brothers, Joseph and Louis Slakoper, both of Lansford, PA.
Pauline graduated from Coaldale High School as part of the class of 1949, where she participated in cheerleading, school plays, and was honored as prom queen. After graduating, she remained in Coaldale where she then became a seamstress and married. In the late 1950s, Pauline moved to Hershey and later became employed by H.B. Reese Candy Company . After 35 years, she retired from Reese’s at the age of 65. After retirement, Pauline loved spending more time with her children and grandchildren, as well as enjoying other interests. Pauline was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Hershey since 1970. Her strong faith in God was an important part of her life. More than anything, Pauline was a very proud mother and grandmother, and she will be deeply missed by her loving family.
All are welcome to join Pauline’s family at her viewing on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. until time of vigil service at 6:45 p.m. at Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory of Hershey , Route 422 & Lucy Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033; and at her Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church , 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033; with Rev. Kyle Sahd celebrating. Burial will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA at 12:30 p.m. Pauline’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship immediately following the burial in the John Henry Room at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course , 777 Hollywood Boulevard, Grantville, PA 17028.
Honored to be pallbearers are Pauline’s six grandchildren: Dean Pantages, Christa Pantages, Alex Pantages, Janelle Cline, Thomas Murphy, and standing in for Rachel Cline, who is presently stationed in San Diego, CA with the U.S. Navy, will be son-in-law, Paul Pantages.
The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church , 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033; or to honor Pauline’s selflessness and sincere caring for those in need, a homeless shelter or food kitchen of the donor’s choice.
