Peter “Pete” Howard Haynes, 59, of Mechanicsburg died at home and with his wife at his side on Saturday, December 31, 2011. He was born in Waterville, ME on Friday, February 29, 1952 son of Anna (Lewis) Haynes and the late Norbert Wesley Haynes. Pete was the husband of Leslie (Appleton) Haynes who he married on May 2, 1992.
Pete retired as a Chief Warrant Officer from the United States Coast Guard in July of 1999. He greatly loved his entire family and had an unending love of and for his son Caleb and was fiercely proud to walk his daughters down the aisle on their wedding days. Pete’s eyes twinkled as he skillfully told joke after joke and masterfully rendered his captivating stories. He was an avid ice hockey fan having enjoyed many years as a season ticket holder of the Hershey Bears. Pete was an expert boater and greatly enjoyed his cottage on the lake and his time fishing from his boat and warming by the camp fires. He will always be remembered for his band from his high school days, “Joint Effort.”
Pete’s survivors include his loving wife of 19 years: Leslie (Appleton) Haynes; his beloved mother: Anna (Lewis) Haynes of Washington PA; his son: Caleb Peter Haynes Sr and his son Caleb Jr of Rhode Island; his two daughters: Stephanie Joan Hower and her husband Kyle and their daughter Gwenyth of Mechanicsburg, Lisa Lynn Rodrigo and her husband Timothy and their son Alexander and their soon to be born daughter all of Mechanicsburg; his brother: Jack Haynes; his four sisters: Joanne DeLuca, Cynthia Caswell, Sandra Goebeler, Allison Perry; and several nieces and nephews.
All are welcome to join Pete’s family at his Gathering of Family and Friends on Saturday, January 7, 2012, from 9:00 until time of service at 10:30 at

Inurnment will immediately follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsburg where full military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. Honored to be urn bearers are: Stephanie J. Hower and Lisa L. Rodrigo and honored to be the flag bearer is: Caleb Peter Haynes Sr.
