Philomena “Phyllis” Mary (Hollywood) LaMar, age 65, of Mechanicsburg , and formerly of Ireland , died at Temple University Hospital on Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Phyllis was born on Friday, January 6, 1950 in Dublin, Ireland to the late Christopher Loftus Hollywood and Margaret (Duffy) Hollywood. Phyllis was the widow of Daniel “Dan” Preston LaMar, whom she married on July 28, 1982, and who died on March 23, 2004. In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis is preceded in death by her brother, David Hollywood.
Phyllis’ survivors include her daughters: Susan Marie LaMar of Lemoyne, Danielle Louise LaMar of Las Vegas, Karen Sinead LaMar-Kauffman and her husband, Dustin, and their daughter, Madelyn, of Mechanicsburg; her brothers: Anthony, Jacky, and Matt Hollywood, all of Ireland; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Phyllis was a devout Irish Catholic who attended Saint Theresa Parish and St. Joseph Catholic Church and enjoyed working in Saint Theresa’s Daycare . Phyllis was a proud navy wife and enjoyed living around the world with her family. In fact, her twin girls, Danielle and Karen, were even baptized aboard a naval vessel in Japan. She had a deeply adventurous spirit. Reflecting her giving and loving heart, Phyllis gladly provided transportation for seniors and for anyone she encountered who could benefit from that act of kindness. She volunteered her time at the St. Francis Soup Kitchen in Harrisburg and participated as a host home for the Children’s Friendship Project of Northern Ireland . Phyllis was known as a wonderful baker and her daughters remember her sewing clothing for their dolls. She enjoyed writing to her pen pals, many of whom were family, in Ireland and she often left loving notes for her daughters in all sorts of places. Her family warmly remembers Phyllis as a kind, sweet, selfless woman who appreciated all of the people in her life.
All are welcome to join Phyllis’ family at her Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception and greeting of family and friends at 12:00 p.m. at Saint Theresa Parish , 1300 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070; with Reverend Tariq Isaac celebrating. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville. Cremation was private.
