Randall “Randy” Wallace Hicks
A Humble Man -
Randall “Randy” Wallace Hicks, age 69, of Leland, NC, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away at home on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. Randy was born on Monday, July 17, 1950 in Lancaster to the late Wallace C. Hicks, Jr and Bertha Irene (Fake) Hicks. In addition to his parents, Randy is preceded in death by his sister, Judith “Judy” Hitz.
Randy’s survivors include his companion of many years, Ruth Chubb of Southport, NC; Ruth’s two step-children, whom Randy thought of as his own children and part of his family: Chris Chubb and his wife, Jodi, and their two children: Ronald Dickey, Jr. and Amanda Jo Chubb, of Mechanicsburg, Tracey Barrows and her husband, Brian, of Sterling, VA; Ruth’s niece, Steph Bouder and her daughter, Jessica, of Dillsburg; Ruth’s two sisters: Eileen Coffman and her husband, Kirby, of Harrisburg, Gayle Bouder and her husband, Stephen, and their daughter, Tomi, of Mt. Pleasant Mills; several nieces, nephews and special cousins; and his beloved feline companion, Birdie.
Randy graduated from Annville-Cleona High School as part of the class of 1968. He retired from Harrisburg International Airport in Middletown in 2009. He was a member of American Legion Post 559 in Annville and the Oak Island Elks Lodge #2769 in Oak Island, NC. As a young man, Randy made his way up the difficult trail to Eagle and was proud to have earned the highest rank in scouting. After high school, he continued serving the community and his country. Randy proudly served in the United States Navy and his country during the Vietnam War. He loved to play golf and enjoyed living at the beach. Randy enjoyed visiting the beach so much that five years ago he moved to Oak Island, NC. His family and friends will remember Randy as one to never boast, a man who made friends easily, compassionate, and non-judgmental. Randy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
All are welcome to join Randy’s family at viewing on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, where military honors will be presented.
Contributions in celebration of Randy’s life can be made to any veteran’s charity of the donor’s choice.
