Ray Ellis DeWalt
A Simple Man -
Ray Ellis DeWalt, age 92, of Camp Hill, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2022. Ray was born on Friday, November 8, 1929, in Mechanicsburg to the late Paul Ellis DeWalt and Elderine Alfreda (Capp) DeWalt. Ray was the widower of Marian (Anderson) DeWalt, whom he married on October 10, 1950, and who died on January 10, 2022.
Ray’s survivors include his two sons: David “Dave” Paul DeWalt of Havelock, NC; Eric Robert DeWalt and his wife, Paula Woodhall DeWalt, of Mechanicsburg; his two grandchildren: Zachary McPartland and his wife, Brittni, of Eugene, OR and Kayleigh DeWalt of Mechanicsburg; his three siblings: Parker “Pete” DeWalt, Shirley Vogelsong, Ruthie Updegraff; and several nieces and nephews.
Ray graduated from New Cumberland High School as part of the class of 1947. He then joined the Army and served stateside during the Korean War. Ray retired from PP&L in 1992, after many years of service working as a radio communications specialist. Ray was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, VFW Post 7530 in Lower Allen and a life member of the American Radio Relay League. A simple man, Ray enjoyed “putzing” in his workshop and building radio devices/equipment. His family jokingly referred to him as “MacGuyver”; he liked to rig things and create clever solutions to problems that you didn’t even know you had. Ray will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
All are welcome to join Ray’s family at his public gathering and viewing on Saturday, June 25, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Marleen Elaine Griffith-Stull officiating. Ray’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service. A graveside service and burial will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.
The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to the staff of Hospice of Central Pennsylvania who so lovingly cared for Ray during his illness.
