Ray Lester Fertenbaugh
A Loving & Caring Family Man -
Ray Lester Fertenbaugh, age 79, of Mechanicsburg , died at home peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 10, 2015. Ray was born on Wednesday, December 4, 1935 in Mechanicsburg to the late George Bryan Fertenbaugh and Gertrude Mariah (Fearnbaugh) Fertenbaugh. In addition to his parents, Ray is preceded in death by two brothers, George and John Fertenbaugh; and a sister, Elsie Stevenson.
Ray’s survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Elizabeth (Baker) Fertenbaugh; his three daughters: Denise E. Palmer of Mechanicsburg, Barbara E. Glinski and her husband, John, of Shermans Dale, Melanie R. Matesevac and her husband, Jeff, of Mechanicsburg; his seven grandchildren: Matthew Glinski and his wife, Erin, Megan Palmer and her fiancé, Steven, Jessica (Glinski) Newton and her husband, Jason, Brittany Palmer, Jeffry Matesevac and his wife, Larissa, Stephanie Matesevac, Dylan Glinski; his four great-grandchildren: Emma Hurley, Trey Newton, Jared Glinski, Sophia Hurley; his four siblings: Mabel McNulty, Paul Fertenbaugh, Martha Boyer, Earl Fertenbaugh; and several nieces and nephews.
Ray graduated from Mechanicsburg Area High School as part of the class of 1954 and he retired in 1998 from Keystone Railway Equipment Company in Camp Hill. Ray was a lifelong member of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg. He was an avid Penn State football and NFL fan and he loved the mountains, hunting, camping, and motorcycles. As a handyman, Ray could always be relied upon, even when he was bleeding, which was often. He was a hard-working man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. The girls remember their father as a strict disciplinarian who taught them well how to be good and caring people. The love Ray had for his grandchildren and great- grandchildren was beyond measure and he was always there for them with steadfast support. Ray will be deeply missed.
All are welcome to join Ray’s family at his visitation on Friday, July 17, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Trindle Spring Lutheran Church , 14 State Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050; with Pastor Sigrid Hipkiss officiating. Burial will follow immediately in Westminster Cemetery in Carlisle. Honored to be pallbearers are: Matthew Glinski, Steven Hurley, Jason Newton, Jeffry Matesevac, Dylan Glinski, John Glinski and Jeff Matesevac. Ray’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church following the burial.
