Raymond "Ray" Anthony DeGaetano

Raymond “Ray” Anthony DeGaetano, age 93, of Mechanicsburg, died on Saturday, November 11, 2023.  Ray was born on Monday, October 20, 1930, in Mount Carmel to the late Anthony DeGaetano and Justine (Fincato) DeGaetano.  Ray was the widower of Dorothy “Dottie” A. (Lucas) DeGaetano, whom he married on August 12, 1950, and who died on August 16, 2004.  In addition to his parents and wife, Ray is preceded in death by his three children: Daniel DeGaetano, Rae Ann Reed, and David A. DeGaetano; and his six siblings: Albert DeGaetano, Edward DeGaetano, and four sisters.

 

Ray’s survivors include his six grandchildren: Lisa Marie Reed and her husband, Davie Talley, of Mechanicsburg, Brian DeGaetano of Dillsburg, David DeGaetano Jr of Harrisburg, Terresa DeGaetano of Palmyra, Robert Reed Jr of Mechanicsburg, Christine Heckendorn of Hunterstown; his sister, Dolores; his nine great-grandchildren; his 28 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Ray graduated from Mount Carmel High School as part of the class of 1948.  He retired from AMP in 1992, after serving as a product engineer for many years.  Ray was a veteran of the United States Army, where he operated as a field lineman.  He was involved in his local community, and was a member of the Mechanicsburg club and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.  Ray was an outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing.  He was especially fond of fishing in Canada, where he could enjoy the great outdoors.  Ray was a family man who adored his wife and children.  He will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to know him.

 

All are welcome to join Ray’s family at his viewing on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until time of remembrance at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.  Ray’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service.  Burial will follow the reception in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.
