Raymond “Ray” Charles Rosnick

Proud Lion with 54 Years of Service -

Raymond “Ray” Charles Rosnick, age 87, of Mechanicsburg, PA and formerly of Uniontown, PA unexpectedly went home on Monday, March 11, 2019.  Ray was born on Tuesday, March 1, 1932 in Lamberton, PA to the late Samuel Rosnick and Anna (Smagner) Rosnick.  In addition to his parents, Ray is preceded in death by his great-grandson, John Kurhan, Jr.; his three brothers, and his two sisters.

Ray’s survivors include his wife of 62 years, Virginia “Ginny” (Beatty) Rosnick; his two sons: Mark Rosnick and his wife, Anna, of Shiremanstown and Jeffrey “Jeff” Rosnick and his wife, Jamie, of Pittsburgh; his six grandchildren: Jason, Eric, Jennifer, Ashlea-Anne, Star, and Kylin; his 3 great-granddaughters: Violet, Hailey, and Avery.

Ray graduated from Uniontown High School as part of the class of 1950.  He retired after a long and successful career as a highway designer.  Ray was a man of deep faith and a longtime member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg where he served in many capacities over the years including time on the Church Council, as an usher, a lay reader and a youth group leader.  He was a coach and umpire for the Mechanicsburg Pony League and he would often say that he could take his hearing aids out so the parents could yell at him as much as they wanted.  Ray shared his love of trains and model trains with his son, Mark, who smiles as he reflects on the “train time” they spent together.  Ray’s wife, Ginny, also smiles when she shares that she was 26 years young when she and Ray married and that she, “knew exactly what she wanted and he was it.”  Ray was a considerate and friendly man who cared about people and enjoyed joking and as Ginny says, “They did not come any better than him.”

Ray was a proud Lion with over 54 years of service which included multiple terms as Mechanicsburg Lions Club President and over 35 years as Club Secretary.  Lion Ray was the recipient of many awards including the rarely awarded Progressive Melvin Jones Fellowship and he was one of only six people in Pennsylvania to receive the John R. Crone Fellowship.  Lion Ray has also been recognized for his laudable 24 years of service as a board member of the Lions Hearing Research Foundation with 21 of those years spent serving as the board’s secretary.  Lion Ray truly exemplified the mission of Lionism which is, “Lions serve…to improve their communities, and the world.”  Our community and the world are certainly better places because of Lion Ray.

All are welcome to join Ray’s family for a time of visiting with family and friends on Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.  Those attending are invited to bring with them a pair of eye glasses or hearing aids for recycling to be donated to the Mechanicsburg Lions Club in memory of Ray and in keeping with his unwavering commitment to helping those affected by vision or hearing loss.

All are also welcome to join Ray’s family at his memorial service on Saturday, March 16, 2019 beginning at 12:45 p.m. at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, 117 West Keller Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Marleen Elaine Griffith-Stull officiating.  Ray’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church following his memorial service.  Interment in the columbarium at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church will be private.
