Regina “Jean” Frances (Seifert) Gaumer, age 100, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Summerhill, New Cumberland, and Lewisberry, died on Monday, March 18, 2024. Jean was born on Monday, September 17, 1923, in Johnstown to the late Albert Louis Seifert and Mary Amelia (Berschneider) Seifert. Jean was the widow of John Leonard Gaumer, whom she married on July 6, 1951, and who died on April 9, 1999. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean is preceded in death by her eight siblings: Zita, Margaret, Arzela, Robert, Lucille, Clement, Shirley, Albert; and her faithful canine companion, Herbie.
Jean’s survivors include her four children: Jan Marie (Gaumer) Cline and her significant other, Gary, of Lewisberry, PA, John Bradford Gaumer and his wife, Rosemary, of Ridgefield, CT, Julie Ann (Gaumer) McGraw and her husband, Kevin, of Dillsburg, PA, Jeffrey David Gaumer of Naperville, IL; her seven grandchildren; her nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Jean graduated from Johnstown Catholic High School. She worked at Olmsted Airforce Base in Middletown and also became a pilot. She was very proud of her time at Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator/supervisor.Mom's most important job was raising her four children. When she returned to work, she worked at Rite Aid, CCNB, Amp Electronics and retired from duPont/Berg Electronics.
All are welcome to join Jean’s family for her prayer service with a time of remembrance on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 1:30 p.m., followed by a celebration of life open house and gathering of family and friends until 4:00 p.m., all at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral & Cremation). Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of the parking lots. Jean’s burial and graveside service at Emanuel Cemetery, will be family only. Cremation was private.
