Reverend Jeffrey “Jeff” S. Swanger

He was called to Serve his Lord -

Reverend Jeffrey “Jeff” S. Swanger, age 78, of Mechanicsburg, went peacefully home with his Lord and Savior with his family by his side on Thursday, December 23, 2021.  Jeff was born on Saturday, July 31, 1943, in Lewistown to the late John Kenneth Swanger and Bertrice E. (Baker) Swanger. In addition to his parents, Jeff is preceded in death by his three brothers: John, Kenneth, and Timothy Swanger.

Jeff’s survivors include his wife of 56 years, Nancy Jane (Brown) Swanger; his three children: Lisa Amos of Mechanicsburg; Tricia Dovenspike and husband, Hans, of Mechanicsburg; Christopher “Chris” Swanger and wife, Dana, of Lancaster; his six grandchildren: Sarah Amos, Rebecca Amos, Michael Posteraro, Carmen Posteraro, Aaron Dovenspike, Emma Dovenspike; his great-granddaughter: Parklynn Sweigart; his three sisters: Sharon Bingaman, Teresa Hannon, and Michele Bair.

Jeff proudly served his country in the United States Navy.  Jeff had many interests: including photography, reading and as evidenced by his CD collection, he had a passion for music.  He also enjoyed traveling, especially to Cape May.  He worked for 20 years at TRW in Harrisburg before he answered the call into the ministry.  While raising a family and working to support them, Jeff, attended college and seminary.  All of this hard work, culminated in his ordination.  Jeff was called to minister in many churches over the years until his retirement in 1994.  He returned to his first church, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, in Dillsburg.  He pastored there until 2019.  His passion to serve his Lord and the love for his family was apparent in his words and his deeds.  He treasured the time with his family; and he and Nancy created many wonderful memories together.

All are welcome to join Jeff’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Thursday, December 30, 2021, from 1:30 p.m. until time of service at 2:45 p.m. with military honors immediately following the service all at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Dr. S. Philip Covert officiating.  At the family’s request, masks are required to be worn by all guests while indoors.  Cremation was private.
