Richard “Dick” Harold Cekovich

An Avid Hunter and Outdoorsman -

Richard “Dick” Harold Cekovich, age 82, of Mechanicsburg, was embraced by his loving family in Heaven on Saturday, June 10, 2017.  Dick was born on Thursday, May 16, 1935 in Mechanicsburg to the late John Cekovich and Ruth Anna (O’Hara) Cekovich.  In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by his son, Richard “Rick” D. Cekovich.

Dick’s survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marjorie Irene (Moyles) Cekovich; his four children: Ronald “Ron” Cekovich and his fiance, Elaine Berry, of Hagerstown, MD, Ruth Fritz and her husband, Jerry, III, of Mechanicsburg, Linda Groff and her husband, Ron, of Mechanicsburg, Cindy Kio and her husband, Doug, of Austin, PA; his daughter-in-law, Tammy Cekovich of Mechanicsburg, PA; his 12 grandchildren; his 22 great-grandchildren; his three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Dick graduated from Mechanicsburg High School where he played football and was a star competitor.  Later in life he played semi-pro football for the Cumberland Colts.  He chose to join the United States Air Force and proudly served for many years while traveling all over the globe.  Dick retired from the Naval Supply Depot in Mechanicsburg in 1987, after many years of service completing his career as a computer programmer.  He was a lifelong member of Young’s United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg.  Dick was a member of the Mechanicsburg Sportsmen’s Association where he was very active for many years.   He was an avid trap shooter and he and his team received numerous recognitions.  Dick loved both hunting and the outdoors.  He owned a small gun business that highly promoted Ruger Firearms for the last 40 years and did so long before the company was popular.  Dick enjoyed going to his camp in Potter County with his family and spending time with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He will be missed dearly by his whole family and all of his friends.

All are welcome to join Dick’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Saturday, June 17, 2017, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Young’s United Methodist Church, 7075 Wertzville Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050; with Pastor Robert V. Bishard, Jr. officiating.  Dick’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church following the service.

Burial will follow on Monday, June 19, 2017 in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in celebration of Dick’s life can be made to the Gifts of Love Fund at Young’s United Methodist Church, 7075 Wertzville Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050, or to the American Cancer Society, www.Cancer.org.
