Richard J. Gordon

Richard “Rich” Joseph Gordon of Mechanicsburg died on Monday, March 3, 2025. He was 77 years old.

Rich was born May 27, 1947, in Pittsburgh to the late Abraham “Albert” Gordon and Gladys (Litwin) Gordon. He was the widower of Patricia Ann (Cawley) Gordon, whom he married on June 2, 1972, and who died on July 9, 2016. In addition to his parents and wife, Rich is preceded in death by his sister Carole Eiler.

His survivors include his two children, Meredith Gordon and husband, Philip Schweiger, of West Orange, N.J., and Ian M. Gordon and wife, Amorette Yang, of San Jose, Calif.; his four grandchildren; his sister Joan Gump of Pittsburgh; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Rich graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in suburban Pittsburgh in 1965 and received his Bachelor's degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1969. He went on to become a career CPA for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Rich touched the lives of those who knew him in countless ways, but many will remember his wickedly dark sense of humor, a life-long and wide-ranging passion for music, his loving care for animals and the environment, an extensive practical knowledge of cars and taxes and his inspiring struggle to better his golf game.

All are welcome to join in celebrating Rich’s life on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m., and the memorial service will start at 2:30 p.m. Rich’s family invites everyone to join them for food and fellowship immediately following at Buhrig’s Gathering Place next door.
