Richard Hicks Malone, age 77, of Mechanicsburg , and formerly of Parkton, MD , died at Holy Spirit on Friday, February 27, 2015.  Richard was born on Thursday, June 3, 1937, in Fairchance, PA to the late Roy Byron Malone and Ann Elizabeth (Hicks) Malone.  In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his brother, J. Roland Malone.

Richard’s survivors include his nieces:  Patricia J.M. Gruen and her husband, David, of King George, VA, and Emma A. Persigehl of Hendersonville, NC.

Richard graduated from Mechanicsburg High School and from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in electrical engineering.  He was a scholar at heart; always taking classes, mostly at Loyola University Maryland , where he earned several master’s degrees.  He retired from Westinghouse Electric and before that, he worked on the Gemini Space Program for Martin Company .  Richard was a former trustee at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Madonna, MD and a longtime member of Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church .  Having skied for most of his life, Richard was a member of the Westinghouse Ski Club ; and taught his niece, Patricia, to ski about 35 years ago.  Richard was a member of the High Valley Gun Club , where he shared his love for hunting.  This past hunting season was the first one Richard had missed in many years.

All are welcome to join Richard’s family at his gathering of friends and family on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, from 11:45 a.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m. at Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church , 300 East Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Kathryn Z. Johnston officiating.  Burial in Rolling Green Memorial Park in Camp Hill will be at the family’s convenience.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church , 300 East Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
