Richard Leroy Meck Sr

Proud WWII Army Veteran -

Richard Leroy Meck, Sr., 91, of Mechanicsburg went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. Leroy was a very proud Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the 10 th Mountain Division, 85 th Regiment, L Company in Italy. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He retired as a manager from General Tire where he worked for many years.

His faith was key in his life and he lived according to his beliefs. He was a giving man who donated to many charities. “What little he had, he shared.”

Leroy was completely devoted to his family who he enjoyed more than anything in life. He loved hunting, fishing, spending time at his river lots in Goldsboro and Newport and camping with his family and friends. In fact, he was still towing a camping trailer at 88 years young. He enjoyed bus trips and very especially, dancing with Gertrude. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Leroy is survived by three sons: Donald L. Meck Sr. and his wife Joy A. (deceased) of Mechanicsburg, Richard L. Meck Jr and his wife Nancy of Dillsburg, Barry A. Meck and his wife Judy of Mechanicsburg; his long-time best friend: Gertrude Utley of Shiremanstown; two brothers: Miles “Jake” Meck of Enola, Robert “Bob” Meck of Mechanicsburg; seven grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers: Thelma, Walter and Russell.
