Richard “Dick” Joseph Eberly
Richard “Dick” Joseph Eberly, 80, of Mechanicsburg died at Harrisburg Hospital on Monday, May 14, 2012. He was born in Mechanicsburg on Thursday, July 16, 1931, son of the late Russell Shelley Eberly and Helen (Gutshall) Eberly. Dick was the husband of Dilys (Fegan) Eberly who he married on November 4, 1978.
Dick graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1949. He retired from NCR Corporation as a Field Service Manager after 44 years of service. Dick was a life-long member of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg where he was an active member for many years and where he sang with the Senior Choir . He also sang tenor with the Mechanicsburg Area Ecumenical Choir . Dick was an avid golfer, bowler, hunter and wine maker. He loved bowling at Trindle Bowl in Mechanicsburg and his membership in the Rock Spring Gun Club .
Dick was a US Navy Veteran , a life-long and active member and the current Secretary of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows – Bowmansdale Lodge , a life member of the Mechanicsburg Club , a life member of the Upper Allen Fire Department , a 44 year member of the American Legion Post 143 in New Cumberland and a former Upper Allen Township Secretary , Supervisor and Commissioner .
Dick’s survivors include his loving wife of 33 years: Dilys (Fegan) Eberly; his two sons: Stephen Eberly Sr and his wife Margaret and their son Stephen Jr all of North Carolina, Gordon Eberly of Enola; his three step-sons: David, Douglas and Daniel Wagner; his brother: Marlin “Gene” Eugene Eberly and his wife Audrey of Mechanicsburg; three step-grandsons; one step-granddaughter; five step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Dick in death are his sister Mae Adkins.
All are welcome to join Dick’s family at his viewing on Friday, May 18, 2012, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at his visitation on Saturday, May 19, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Trindle Spring Lutheran Church , 14 State Road, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17050, with Pastor Richard G. Lorenz officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Trindle Spring Lutheran Cemetery where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard . Honored to be pallbearers are: Jack Neibert, John Eberly, Stephen Eberly, Daryl Gochenauer, Bruce Seagrist and Lee Yohn. Dick’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church immediately following the burial.
