Richard “Dick” Lee Hess, Sr.

Richard "Dick" Lee Hess, Sr. passed away on March 9, 2022. Richard was born on August 14, 1943 in Mechanicsburg, PA. He graduated from Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School.  Richard worked as a master brick mason at the family business, Lester Hess & Co.

Richard was passionate about Scouting. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America’s New Birth of Freedom District as a Commissioner and received the Silver Beaver Award for his distinguished service. He was an Order of the Arrow vigil member as well as Commissioner at BSA Hidden Valley and Tuckahoe Summer camps. Church softball, hunting, gardening and Penn State Football were some of his other favorite pastimes. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Camp Hill, PA. Richard was married for 55 years to Darlene Marie (Witmer) Hess. They raised three children in Mechanicsburg, PA. He loved and cherished his wife, children and grandchildren.

Richard is survived by a son Richard L. Hess Jr, two daughters Deann M. Servos, (Mark Servos) and Pamela S. Hess, a sister Betty Ort, and four grandchildren Harrison, Jeralynn, and Daniel Servos, and Joshua Easley.

While Richard’s family will not be accepting flowers, they invite those wishing to celebrate Richard’s life with a memorial contribution to make them to Boy Scouts - New Birth of Freedom Council - Pioneer District.

All are welcome to join Richard’s family at his memorial service on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. all at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut Street, Camp Hill, PA 17011.  Cremation was private.
