Richard “Dick” Myron House

Richard “Dick” Myron House, 89, of Mechanicsburg, died at Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, December 29, 2013. He was born in Harrisburg, on Thursday, August 7, 1924, son of the late Frederick Myron House and Hazel Adeline (Taylor) House. Dick was the husband of Gloria May (Peterson) House whom he married on March 20, 1950.
Dick’s survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Gloria; his children, Judy E. Brown and her husband Terry of Columbia, MD, Jill H. Smith and her husband Steve of Forest Hill, MD, Richard M. House, Jr., of Milford, Connecticut; grandchildren, Tara Brown Martin, Aaron Brown, Jessica Smith, Stephanie Smith, Caitlin House, Dani House; great-grandchildren, Jay Martin, Tyler Martin, Elena Brown; siblings, Donald House and his wife Joyce of CA, Carole “Susie” Bordelon of DE, Sandy Fetrow and her husband George of DE, Roger House; and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Dick in death are his siblings, Jean Belford, Jack House, Spence House, and Fred House.
Dick graduated from Biglerville High School as part of the class of 1942 and attended Dickinson College in Carlisle. He retired from the Navy Ships Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg, after 32 years of service working as a procurement clerk. Dick was a decorated US ARMY WW II Veteran . He was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star medal while serving in three battle campaigns in New Guinea, South Philippines, and Luzon. He was a lifelong member of VFW Post 6704 and American Legion Post 109 both in Mechanicsburg. Dick was a great husband and father who loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a patriotic well respected man.
All are welcome to join Dick’s family at his viewing on Saturday, January 4, 2014, from 9:30 until time of service at 10:30 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Reverend Kevin E. Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard .
