Loving Family Man -

Richard “Dick” Kenneth Long, age 83, of Camp Hill, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly but peacefully at home on Friday, November 24, 2017.  Dick was born on Friday, February 9, 1934 in Cleona to the late Ray Long and Sara (Killian) Long.  In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by his three brothers.

Dick’s survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Evelyn Justine (Hallahan) Long; his son, Gregory R. Long and his wife, Diane, of Mechanicsburg; his daughter, Ann Michelle Bruetsch and her fiancé, John Amodei, of Honey Grove; her three grandchildren: Michael Bruetsch, David Long, and Shannon Long; his five step-grandsons; and his sister, Faye.

Dick graduated from Lebanon High School as part of the class of 1952.  He retired from Roadway Trucking in 1996, after 40 years of service working as a truck driver.  Dick was an Army veteran and a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Camp Hill.  Dick and his wife, Evelyn, were founding members and volunteers of the Hampden Ambulance Association.  Their dedication helped to establish emergency medical services in the township.  In addition, they both ran as active volunteers with River Rescue for years.  Dick was a good neighbor and routinely lent a hand whether with snow removal or garbage can retrieval, he was always helping.  One of his signature activities was to eat breakfast at one of the area diners every morning.  He was well known to and liked by the wait staff at all the restaurants.

Dick loved watching college basketball and professional football, especially the Red Skins.  He seemed to always know more football trivia than anyone else in the room.  Watching the horses run was another of his indulgences.  Dick enjoyed the beach and loved their family trips to Ocean City, New Jersey were he thrilled in the company of his children and grandchildren.  Most of all, Dick was a family man who loved and cherished the time they spent together.

All are welcome to join Dick’s family at his viewing on Friday, December 1, 2017, from 3:00 p.m. until time of service at 5:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Very Reverend Philip G. Burger officiating.  Dick’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the café next to Myers – Buhrig immediately following the service.

Burial will follow on a date to be announced in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, where military honors will be presented.
