Richard “Dick” Dale Rinesmith, Sr., age 81, of Carlisle , and formerly of Shiremanstown , died at Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home on Monday, January 5, 2015. Dick was born on Friday, June 23, 1933 in Harrisburg to the late Ray Rinesmith and Grace (Arnold) Rinesmith. Dick was the widower of Jaqueline “Jackie” Mabel (Towsen) Rinesmith, whom he married on June 20, 1954, and who died on October 12, 2002. In addition to his parents and wife, Dick is preceded in death by his two sisters, Arlene Hoover and Doris Gramm.
Dick’s survivors include his two sons: Richard “Rick” D. Rinesmith and his wife, Missy, of Mechanicsburg, Steven “Steve” Rinesmith and his wife, Sharon, of Newville; his seven grandchildren: Joshua, Jessica, Amanda, Amy, Travis, Tim, Season; his ten great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, William “Bill” Runkle of Shiremanstown.
Dick attended John Harris High School . He retired from the American Can Company in Harrisburg, after more than 30 years of service working as a mechanic. Dick was a member of Christian Life Assembly Church in Mechanicsburg and a former member of the Shiremanstown Fire Department . He was the owner, operator, and mechanic of the former Rinesmith’s Engine Shop in Shiremanstown. Dick loved all things mechanical; riding and working on his Harley Davidson motorcycle, flying planes, building and flying model planes, watching NASCAR, and restoring old cars, particularly his Model A. He enjoyed wood-working and liked animals, especially his pet parrots.
All are welcome to join Dick’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Saturday, January 10, 2015, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant Mary Medkeff-Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsburg. Honored to be pallbearers are: Rick Rinesmith, Steve Rinesmith, Travis Rinesmith, Josh Rinesmith, Tim Rinesmith, and Bill Runkle. Dick’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Warm Hearts Café, next to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, following the burial.
