Lived a Colorful Life -

Richard “Dicky” Christian Dietz, age 65, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully while being comforted by his loving family on Tuesday, July 4, 2017.  Dicky was born on Monday, July 23, 1951 in Mechanicsburg to the late Robert Christian Dietz and Helena (Leite) Dietz.  In addition to his parents, Dicky is preceded in death by his sister, Linda Ness.

Dicky’s survivors include his partner for over 20 years, Susan Russell; his son, David C. Dietz and his wife, Sharon, and their daughter, Ellayna, of Harrisburg; his two sisters: Sandra “Sam” Kindness and her husband, David, of Mechanicsburg, Karen “KC” Parks and her husband, Chester, of Camp Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

Dicky graduated from Mechanicsburg Area High School as part of the class of 1969.  He retired from the United States Postal Service in Dillsburg after over 30 years of service working as a mail carrier.  Dicky was a member of the American Legion Post #109 in Mechanicsburg and a long-time member of The Mechanicsburg Club where he was well known and loved.  Dicky had many passions, some well known and others less so.  Among them were his French horn and accordion playing along with his marching band performances and his playing Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata on the piano.  There was his love of gambling, which included craps and pinochle; the thrill he enjoyed from watching his beloved Eagles, Phillies, and NASCAR; his thirst for competition when he played golf and billiards; his gamesmanship during family games; and the crossword puzzles he worked every morning.  Dicky lived his life with passion and energy and made every moment count.  Perhaps the most meaningful memories his family will carry with them are those from their annual trips to the Wildwood Shore where they spent countless hours together.  Dickey will be remembered by so many who knew and loved him.

All are welcome to join Dicky’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a time of remembrance and sharing of stories to begin at 6:30 p.m., all at the Mechanicsburg Club, 333 Heinz Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.  Please wear comfortable and casual clothing, as Dicky would want.  Cremation was private.

Contributions in celebration of Dicky’s life can be made to Homeland Hospice, 2300 Vartan Way, Suite 115, Harrisburg, PA 17110, or www.HomelandCenter.org.

Dicky’s family has entrusted his care to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read Dicky’s full obituary, view his memorial video and portrait, and sign his official guest book at Buhrig.com.
