Richard “Mac” Lawrence McNertney, 71, of Mechanicsburg , died peacefully at Golden Living in Camp Hill on Friday, January 24, 2014. He was born in Hazleton, PA, on Saturday, March 7, 1942, son of the late Vincent McNertney and Marie (Beilman) McNertney. Mac was the husband of Linda Jo (Wirt) McNertney whom he married on July 2, 1970.
Mac’s survivors include his loving wife of 43 years, Linda Jo (Wirt) McNertney; his two sons, Brian McNertney and his wife Erica of Texas, Shawn McNertney of Mechanicsburg; his four grandsons, Brody, Benjamin, Dylan, Cameron; his brother, Eddie McNertney and his wife Marilyn of Texas; his two sisters, Rea Buchman and her husband Helms of Drums, PA, and Louise Berard and her husband Tony of Sugar Loaf, PA.
Mac graduated from Hazleton High School as part of the class of 1959 and from King’s College in 1963 with a degree in mathematics. An Army National Guard Veteran, he retired from the Naval Ships Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg, PA, on September 2, 1994. Mac was one of the most organized and meticulous people you could ever meet. He loved motorcycles and fast cars a love he passed on to his sons. Mac was always hot so family and visitors were always freezing when in the house. Family time was precious to Mac, especially while watching Notre Dame Football and enjoying a cold beer. His four grandsons always made Mac smile and he treasured his time with them.
All are welcome to join Mac’s family at his viewing on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and at his funeral service at 2:10 p.m. at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Celebrant Mary Medkeff-Rose officiating. Please wear casual and comfortable clothing, as Mac would want. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery in Mechanicsburg, PA. Mac’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship in the Centurian Room at The Mechanicsburg Club , 333 Heinz Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, following the burial where Mac will be remembered and toasted.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you remember Mac as he wanted to be remembered, with a beer and a smile.
