Richard “Rich” George Adams
Richard George Adams, age 79, of Camp Hill, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 with his family by his side. Rich was born on Friday, August 27, 1943, in Harrisburg to the late Lester M. Adams and Nina (Gentile) Adams.
Rich was a 1965 graduate of Juniata College where he majored in history. While in College, Rich was a member of the collegiate archery team and competed nationally. During his senior year, he shot 53 out of 60 bullseyes to earn a National Championship Title. Rich stayed active after college, fishing, hunting, skiing, snowmobiling, and playing softball. In 1966 Pv2 Adams enlisted in the United States Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1972. He remained an avid student of history and was a Civil War Reenactor with the 42nd Pennsylvania Regiment (“Bucktails”) and the Mifflin Guard for many years.
In recent years, Rich enjoyed spending his time at the American Legion Post 109 volunteering for a variety of positions including serving as the Post Commander from 2015-2017 and President of the Legion’s Home Association from 2015-2021. He also spent time with his brother in Delaware, where they both served as volunteers with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Rich’s survivors include his wife of 28 years, Rebecca “Becky” May (Mummert) Adams; his three children: Shawn Hannold and her husband, Mark, of Harrisburg; CW5 Richard G. Adams, II and his wife, Cheryl, of Harrisburg; Mandy Fullmer and her husband, Aaron Barasch, of Harrisburg; his six grandchildren: Joshua Hannold, Jordan Hannold, Victoria Adams, 2nd Lt. Zachary Adams, Charley Barasch, Conor Barasch; his brother, Robert “Bob” Adams and his wife, Mev, of Wesley Chapel, FL; his former spouse and friend, JoAnne “Jodi” Adams of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.
All are welcome to join Rich’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Friday, November 18, 2022, from 10:45 a.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; and his virtual gathering of family and friends and service via video chat or telephone beginning at 12:15 p.m. A graveside service and burial will follow the service in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill, where military honors will be presented by American Legion Post 109. Rich’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the burial.
