Richard “Rich” Alan Lopez, 67, of Mechanicsburg , died peacefully at Holy Spirit Hospital and surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. He was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on Friday, April 5, 1946, son of the late Erasmo Carl Lopez and Evelyn (Fornwalt) Lopez.
Rich’s survivors include his loving children, Renee Earnst and her husband Ben of Mechanicsburg, Rick Lopez, Jr. of Mechanicsburg, and Ryan Lopez of Mechanicsburg; his three granddaughters, Madyson, Chloe, and Rebecca all of Mechanicsburg; and his brother, Carl “Sonny” Lopez of Camp Hill; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Among those preceding Rich in death is his sister, Dawn Mumma.
Rich graduated from William Penn High School as part of the class of 1964. He loved being an alumnus of William Penn High School and he looked forward to attending every reunion. Rich retired, after almost 30 years, from the Iron Worker’s Local #404 in Harrisburg after which he spent 12 years working for the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency ( PHEAA ). Flowers were a special love for Rich and he greatly enjoyed his time gardening. Bruce, Bentley, and Kitty Purry were Rich’s beloved cats who he doted over. He was a simple man of few words who never lost his temper. Rich was generous, a man who would give the shirt off his back. His granddaughters were his life and he was proud of to be known as “Pappy Daycare.”
All are welcome to join Rich’s family at his Celebration of Life Gathering & Reception on Monday, October 28, 2013, from 5:30 p.m. until his Time of Remembrance and Closing Ceremony at 7:30 p.m. at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Cremation was private.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Humane Society of Harrisburg Area , 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111, or an animal charity of the donor’s choosing.
