A Helper and A Doer -

Richard “Rick” Michael Burrows, a long-time resident of Mechanicsburg, PA, ended his 19-month journey with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the age of 60.  Rick was born on Wednesday, April 16, 1958 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Robert Thomas Burrows, Sr. and Mary Rozella Elizabeth (Hafenbrak) Burrows.

Rick’s survivors include his wife of 38 years, Jan Lisa (Bishop) Burrows, originally from Boiling Springs, PA; his two sons: Ryan Christopher Burrows and his wife, Chrissy, of Camp Hill, PA, Shane Michael Burrows and his wife, Lynn, of Allentown, PA; his three grandchildren: Ava, Thomas, Ryleigh; his brother, Robert Burrows and his wife, Grace, of Shippensburg, PA; and his two sisters: Miriam Roberts of Baldwin, MD, Mary Ali and her husband, Joseph, of Raleigh, NC.  He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Rick graduated from North Allegheny High School in Pittsburgh as part of the class of 1976 and from Shippensburg State College in 1980.  He worked as a police officer for the Mechanicsburg Police Department, at IBM Mechanicsburg, and as a software engineer at NVTI in New Cumberland, PA.  Rick was a member of Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church.  Most importantly, he was a helper and a doer.  Rick’s personality could light up a room; he helped many others fighting cancer by injecting his positivity and good spirit.  He fought until the very end. Our hearts are full knowing he lived an extraordinary life with many memories surrounded by family.  We will love and miss him dearly.

All are welcome to join Rick’s family at his celebration of life service on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church, 300 East Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with The Reverend Kathryn Z. Johnston officiating.  Rick’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church following the service.  In memory of Rick, all of those attending are invited to bring their classic cars.  Cremation was private.
