Robert “Bob” D. Cashner
Devoted Family Man -
Robert “Bob” D. Cashner, age 73, of Etters, fell asleep peacefully and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 4, 2020. Bob was born on Saturday, October 19, 1946, in Harrisburg to the late Naomi (Bair) Cashner and Donald L. Cashner.
Bob’s survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Judy Ilene (Brothers) Cashner; his two daughters: Melissa “Missy” Ann Hiler and husband Alan of Mechanicsburg, Dr. Michelle McCann and husband Jeffrey of Pittsburgh; his two granddaughters: Campbell and Channing; his three brothers; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved feline companion, Sawdust.
Bob graduated from Cedar Cliff High School as part of the class of 1964. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and a man of faith. Bob enjoyed being out in the woods and was one of the best vegetable gardeners around. He was very handy and tinkered all the time; often “inventing” things to solve problems. Bob graciously devoted time to his family; whether sharpening blades of all kinds, sewing little roses, building a shed, painting favors, building trophies, or chaperoning trips. He especially loved chaperoning his granddaughter’s trips with her synchronized figure skating team, Steel City Blades; and when his girls were in school, he attended every one of their events. Bob was known for always helping others, and he will be dearly missed.
Bob’s immediate services will be private while family and friends are encouraged to remain safely at home. Burial in Emanuel Cemetery in Lewisberry will be at the convenience of the family. Services with public gathering will be announced once scheduled.
Contributions in celebration of Bob’s life can be made to Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111; www.HumaneSocietyHbg.org/Donate.
Bob’s family has entrusted his care to Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421. They suggest that family and friends read Bob’s full obituary, view his memorial video, offer their condolences, share their stories and memories, upload photographs and videos, light a memorial candle, express a sentiment and sign his guest book by visiting Bob’s official obituary page at Buhrig.com.
