Robert “Bob” Donald Dressler
Devoted Family Man -
Robert “Bob” Donald Dressler, age 87, of Mechanicsburg, went home on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. Bob was born on Wednesday, November 8, 1933, in Walker Township, PA to the late Robert Sylvester Dressler and Hulda Florence (Henderson) Dressler. In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his three sisters: Mildred, Mary and Nora.
Bob’s survivors include his wife of 64 years, Clara Jean (Newsome) Dressler; his two children: Robert “Rob” Keith Dressler and wife Diane Becker of Chicago, Illinois, Jill Elaine Johnson and husband James of Mechanicsburg; his two grandchildren: Sean Beam of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, Shaelyn Farmer and husband Dillon of Lynchburg, Virginia; his four siblings: Ruth Williams, Sandra Robey, Clara Fay Whistler, William Dressler, and his half-sister, Jackie Fowler, all of Juniata County; his several nieces and nephews; and his extended Hawbaker family of the State College area.
Bob graduated from Juniata Joint High School as part of the class of 1951 and later earned an associate’s degree from Williamsport Area Community College. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during which he was stationed in Korea. Bob retired as a senior new projects manager from Amerimax Home Products, Inc. in Lancaster, PA, where he was highly respected and trusted as a loyal colleague and experienced inventor for over 43 years. In his retirement and for over a decade Bob greatly enjoyed working part-time at Capital Automotive Refinishing Supplies (CARS) of Mechanicsburg. He was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mechanicsburg.
Bob was a light of smiles and jokes, and he was known for telling and laughing at his own corny jokes. He was also known for his talent not matching his enthusiasm for singing. His children, who can sing, humorously recall Bob so lacking in singing ability that he was asked to leave the church choir. He was an avid Penn State fan and enjoyed hunting and golfing. Bob’s favorite activity was downhill skiing, which he delighted in sharing with his children and grandchildren up until age 86. Bob’s family fondly remembers him as being a good teacher and devoted family man who was fiercely proud of his grandchildren.
