Robert “Bob” Edwin Enck
A Loving Family Man -
Robert “Bob” Edwin Enck, age 80, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016. Bob was born on Tuesday, December 3, 1935 in Monroe Township to the late Lloyd E. Enck and Mary R. (Comp) Enck. Bob was the widower of Agnes M. (Maxwell) Enck, whom he married on August 20, 1982, and who died on August 23, 1999. In addition to his parents and wife, Bob is preceded in death by a son, Robert A. Enck; and his three sisters: Betty Rider, Jeanne Hertzler, and Barbara Minnich.
Bob’s survivors include his six children: Betsy Hendley and her husband, Kurt, of Shiremanstown, Michael Enck and his wife, Stephanie, of Mechanicsburg, Rick Enck of Camp Hill, John Enck and his wife, Jackie, of Mechanicsburg, Jeffrey Costello and his wife, Kelly, of Mechanicsburg, Joe Costello and his wife, Tracie, of Jacksonville, FL; his 15 grandchildren: Robert, Ashley, Chelsea, John, Liberty, Michael, Lindsey, Kyle, Lauren, Katie, Joey, Tony, Aaron, Steven, Dan; his three great-grandchildren: Delilah, Robyn, Michael; and his two brothers: Lloyd Enck of Boiling Springs, Ronald Enck of Mechanicsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob graduated from Mechanicsburg Area High School as part of the class of 1954 where he was a four-year letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1954 to 1962. He retired from Local 23 in Harrisburg in 1997, after working as a heat and frost insulator and asbestos worker. Bob was a member of the Mechanicsburg Club, VFW South Mountain Post 6671 in Dillsburg, American Legion Post #109 in Mechanicsburg, Lower Allen VFW Post 7530, a life member of the Elks Lodge, a member of the White Circle Club in Carlisle, and the Enola Sportsmen’s Association. He coached for Mechanicsburg Little League Association from 1967 to 1979. Bob was an avid race fan and he enjoyed golfing. His favorite teams were the Penn State Nittany Lions, Detroit Lions, and Philadelphia Phillies. Bob enjoyed bus trips to Atlantic City, NJ. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, infectious laugh, and giving nature. Bob was always there to lend a hand at anytime, and with his easy-going personality, many of his friends and family knew him as “Uncle Bob”.
All are welcome to join Bob’s family at his viewing on Thursday, March 17, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Gale M. Gregor officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Churchtown in Boiling Springs. Honored to be pallbearers are: Bob Enck, Jeff Costello, John Enck Sr., John Enck Jr., Mike Enck, and Rick Enck. Bob’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the VFW South Mountain Post 6671, 22 Franklin Street, Dillsburg, PA 17019, immediately following the burial.
