Robert Samuel Greene Sr., 89, of Mechanicsburg, died at JC Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, May 26, 2012.  He was born in Bellwood on Thursday, December 28, 1922, son of the late Senator Greene and Ella (Farnsworth) Greene.  Robert was the widower of Pearl Elizabeth (Jones) Greene to whom he was married for 49 years.

Robert retired as a mechanic from the Naval Supply Depot in Mechanicsburg in 1961. He had also been a mechanic at Kauffman Bus Service in Mechanicsburg.  Robert attended Young’s United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Robert was a US Army-Air Corps WW II veteran where he was a mechanic on the B-24 Liberators serving in Italy. Robert was a charter member of Enola Sportsman Association, a member of the “ Senator Boyhese Hunting Camp, ” American Legion Post #109 and VFW Post # 7530. He loved his antique car, hunting, fishing and playing the lottery.  Most of all, Robert adored his family.

Robert’s survivors include his loving children, Patricia Ellenberger and her husband Terry, Susan Shenk and her husband Gerald, Robert Greene Jr. and his wife Terri, Richard Greene and his wife Jamie, Rodney Greene and his wife Venita, Shirley Zeiders and her husband Eugene; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild who is due in September; three sisters, Pearl Dereclea, Elsie Weigel and her husband Lester, Dorothy Luker and her husband Kerm; and several nieces and nephews.

All are welcome to join Robert’s family at his visitation on Thursday, May 31, 2012, from 10:00 until time of service at 11:00 at Young’s United Methodist Church, 7075 Wertzville Road, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17050, with Pastor Robert Bishard officiating.  A committal service will immediately follow, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. Cremation was private and at the convenience of the family.  Robert’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church following the service.
