Robert P. Haigh
Robert P. Haigh, 78, of Harrisburg, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 with Frank Sinatra playing in the background. Born in East Stroudsburg, PA on December 27, 1939 to Gladys Groner Haigh and Robert Burns Haigh. Bob was a 1957 graduate of Stroud Union High School and a 1961 graduate of Lehigh University. He was preceded in death by Carolyn Carl Haigh, his wife of 42 years. Bob is survived by his sister, Linda Haigh Tozier of Pittsburgh and his nephew, Robert D. Tozier of Wexford, PA.
For 38 years Bob was employed by the PA Welfare Department, now the Department of Human Services, serving in several capacities including Deputy Director of Mental Health and Policy and Planning Director for the Secretary of Public Welfare. From 1999 to 2006 Bob was President of the Lancaster Osteopathic Health Foundation.
Bob was a 2015 SAGE awardee. Known for his sense of humor, his articulate thoughts and his embracement of the Haigh family sense of volunteerism, Bob took on what was needed for the betterment of the greater Harrisburg community by serving on many boards, including The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, United Way of Central PA, Hospice of Central PA, Perry County Health Coalition and Some One To Tell It To. Memorial contributions may be made to any of these organizations.
