Robert “Dan” “Danny” Daniel Hessom , age 55, of Mechanicsburg , and formerly of Fairfax, VA , died on Sunday, June 14, 2015. Dan was born on Monday, July 13, 1959 in Fairfax, VA to Ellen (Layman) Pearson.
Dan’s survivors include his fiancée, Donna Kay Johnson, who he has been with for 15 years; his mother, Ellen Pearson, of Fairfax, VA; his children: John James Doedtman and his fiancée, Felicia, of Mechanicsburg, Travis Nelson Hessom of Mechanicsburg, Anthony “Tony” James Reigle of Mechanicsburg, Catherine “Cathy” Michelle Spalding of Stafford, VA, Jessica “Jess” Ann Hessom of East Lansing, MI, Tracy L. Patton and her husband, Eric, of Mechanicsburg; his grandchildren: David Andrew Spalding, Brian Matthew Spalding, Lillian Judith Doedtman , Adalyn Grace Patton, Lukas Michael Doedtman , Kiri Marie Hardy; his siblings: Mark, Sharyl, Barbie; his niece, Heather Weser-Eckert; his nephew, Brett Hessom ; and his cousins, Kenny and Toby Layman.
Dan retired from Highmark after many years of service working as an IT technician. He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mechanicsburg. Dan was also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps . He was a devoted fiancé, father, and grandfather who adored his grandkids. Dan was a hard worker, good cook, and a great handyman who was good at everything he did, including art. He will be remembered by his sarcastic jokes and great sense of humor. Dan loved God, put everyone else before himself, and would give the shirt off of his back. Dan was a brave, courageous, and simple man who lived a simple life.
All are welcome to join Dan’s family at his viewing on Monday, June 22, 2015, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery in Mechanicsburg, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard . Dan’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Hoss’s Steak and Sea House in Mechanicsburg following the burial. Honored to be pallbearers are: Travis Hessom , John Doedtman , Tony Hessom , Kenny Layman, Toby Layman, and Brett Hessom .
