CMSgt Robert B. Pomeroy, USAF, retired
Robert “Bob” B. Pomeroy, 71, of Carlisle died Wednesday, June 22, 2011 in the Harrisburg Hospital. He was born on February 7, 1940 in Harrisburg the son of the late Charles W. Pomeroy and the late Marguerite M. (Savercool) Pomeroy – Antonucci.
Bob graduated from William Penn High School in 1958, and from Penn State, Harrisburg in 1984, where he studied Humanities. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force, after 34 ½ years with the Air Force and the PA Air National Guard, serving much of his career at Fort Indiantown Gap, Anville, Pennsylvania.
Bob grew up a classic all American boy. He tried to be a good provider to his children, encouraging them to discover themselves and the world around them. He was an avid Penn State sports fan, especially enjoying their games against Notre Dame. He enjoyed baseball, dancing, soft jazz and rock & roll. He was an avid reader. He dearly loved and will be missed by his black Labrador Retriever, “Chief Pomeroy”.
Bob is survived by a daughter: Lisa Pomeroy of Carlisle; a son: Dr. Steven Pomeroy USAF of Colorado Springs, CO;
two
grandsons: including Brian Goodling of Carlisle; one granddaughter; a sister: Patricia Smith of Carlisle; a brother: Larry Pomeroy and his wife Deb of Mechanicsburg; 9 nieces and nephews: including Andrea Smith Minghelli and Isabella Minghelli both of Lancaster, CA.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Edward Pomeroy.
All are welcome at Bob's viewing which will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm with a rosary being prayed at 7:30pm at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055, (717) 766-3421, www.Myers-Buhrig.com . A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 10:00am in Saint Patrick Church, 152 East Pomfret Street, Carlisle with Fr. Dwight Schlaline celebrating. Burial will immediately follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.
