Robert “Rich” Richard Rouzer, Sr., age 78, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and formerly of Cumberland, MD, passed away at VibraLife on Sunday, August 21, 2016. Rich was born on Tuesday, November 23, 1937 in Johnstown, PA to the late Lester H. Rouzer and Erdie Pauline (Shroyer) Smith. In addition to his parents, Rich is preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Rouzer, and his sister, Verna Gail Bosley.
Rich’s survivors include his three children: Robert “Rick” R. Rouzer, Jr. and his wife, Marlene, of Stafford, VA, Renae Callahan and her husband, James, of Mechanicsburg, PA, Ronald Rouzer and his husband, Thomas Notestine, of Camp Hill, PA; his nine grandchildren; his seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Delores “Jill” Wagner of Cumberland, MD; his former spouse and lifelong friend, Sondra (Treat) Bowen and her husband, William, Dillsburg, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
Rich graduated from Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, MD as part of the class of 1955. He was a member of the American Legion. Rich served in the United States Navy and was a very proud veteran. He was a devoted employee who worked at Universal Media for 14 years where he considered everyone there to be his “second family”. Rich also worked at Iceland Seafood Corporation, Harding’s Restaurant, Schindler’s Restaurant, and was the owner and proprietor of The Clarysville Inn & Restaurant in Cumberland, MD. Rich was known for making everything fun and everyone enjoyed being around him. He always saw the glass as half full and never took life too seriously; he lived life “his way”. Rich loved people and never considered anyone to be a stranger. He thrived off relationships with those around him and valued that more than anything else. He was a devoted Pittsburgh Pirates fan for 75 years, loved animals, fishing, and nature. Rich was crazy for ice cream and could eat his fair share. He loved his family very deeply and was extremely proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; he will be greatly missed by all of them.
All are welcome to join Rich’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Monday, August 29, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. until time of remembrance at 7:00 p.m. at First Church of God Community Center, 201 East Green Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating and where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. Interment will be held at a later date in Bedford Cemetery in Bedford, PA. Cremation was private.
