Robert “Bob” Burnell Starner
Fiercely Talented Musician -
Robert “Bob” Burnell Starner, age 89, of Mechanicsburg, PA, was embraced by Jesus on Saturday, June 25, 2016. Bob was born on Wednesday, June 1, 1927 in Hanover, PA, to the late Miles Starner and Margaret (Laughman) Starner. In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his four brothers and one sister.
Bob’s survivors include his two sons: Alan Starner and his wife, Deb, of Mechanicsburg, Barry Starner and his wife, Denise, of Mechanicsburg; his three grandchildren: Eric Starner, Jamie Starner, Jessica Starner; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob retired from the United States Postal Service in Harrisburg after over 30 years of service as a carrier. He enjoyed attending Daybreak Church in Mechanicsburg. Bob was a United States Army Veteran who served in World War II. He was a fiercely talented musician who played various string instruments with a number of groups over the years, including the Hawaiian Review. His favorite instrument was the Hawaiian Steel Guitar and his favorite song was the Hawaiian Wedding Song. Another source of joy was Bob’s Harley-Davidson motorcycles and his complete enjoyment of NASCAR. In fact, Bob had a special license plate “IM4No3” which was actually signed by Dale Earnhardt. Bob’s family smiles as they remember Bob’s captivating storytelling, especially the stories about his colorful and full life. Stories of “Shorty” the cat and “Rebel”, Bob’s black lab mix, are good examples of his love of animals. Bob was loved and will be deeply missed.
All are welcome to join Bob’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Thursday, June 30, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and at his funeral service beginning at 12:15 p.m. at Daybreak Church, 321 Gettysburg Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Joel Smith and Pastor Shawn Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA.
