Japanese Occupation Duty -

Robert “Bob” Alford, Sr., 87, of Camp Hill , died at home on Thursday, September 5, 2013.  He was born on a farm in Osmond, Nebraska, on Wednesday, May 19, 1926, son of the late Thomas Alford and Bertha (Kuehn) Alford.  Bob was the widower of Isabelle (Brown) Alford.

Bob’s survivors include his loving children, Monta E. Gentile and her husband Gerald of Camp Hill, Robert L. Alford, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Camp Hill; his grandson, Brian Alford of Camp Hill; and several nieces and nephews.  Among those preceding Bob in death are his two brothers, Thomas Alford, Clarence Alford; and his two sisters, Alice Koeppe, and Edith Ziemer.

Bob was a 52 year member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg.  He was a transport driver for Dawson Oil Company before entering the United States Army .  Sergeant Alford was a WWII Veteran having served in the South Pacific with the 1279 th Combat Engineers and five months occupation duty in Japan .  Their mission was to destroy all Japanese military aircraft.  Bob was a night manager for Wright’s Bar & Grill in Delmar, Delaware.  He met Isabelle Brown who worked at the Bank of Delmar .  They were married on October 10, 1951.  Isabelle passed away on March 12, 2012.  Bob was a retired supervisor for Ralston Purina Company Mechanics Plant with 33 year of service.

All are welcome to join Bob’s family at his viewing on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 from 11:00 to 12:00 and his service at 12:15 at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church , 5000 Simpson Ferry Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050, with Reverend Kevin E. Hughes officiating.   Burial will follow in Rolling Green Memorial Park in Camp Hill, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard .  Bob’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church following the burial.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Mount Olivet United Methodist Church , 5000 Simpson Ferry Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050.
