Robert “Bob” “N3LKL” Edward Carpenter
Mentor to His Family and Friends -
Robert “Bob” Edward Carpenter, age 66, of Carlisle, passed away at Harrisburg Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, March 7, 2016. Bob was born on Saturday, September 10, 1949, in Mechanicsburg to Robert L. Carpenter and the late Dorothy M. (Railing) Carpenter. In addition to his mother, Bob is preceded in death by his brother, Luke Aaron Carpenter.
Bob’s survivors include his wife, Judy (Saylor) Carpenter; his four children: Jennifer “Jenn” Jurevicz and her husband, John, of Shamokin, Karen Nickel, Dakota “Cody” Carpenter of Carlisle, and Candice; his six grandchildren: Adam, Alicia, Amber, Devin, Gavin, Nicole; his nine great-grandchildren: Ethan, Preston, Brayden, Eljah, Tanner, Bryson, Grandon, Tristan, Camron; and his four siblings: Aaron S. Carpenter and his wife, Vera, of Carlisle, Angel Stone and her husband, Larry, of Rimersburg, PA, Nita Swarner and her husband, Dan, of Carlisle, Delbert “D.J.” Carpenter and his wife, Sylvia, of Grafton, WV; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob graduated from Carlisle Senior High School as part of the class of 1967. Bob served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electronics technician. He worked at Navy Support Weapon Systems in Mechanicsburg in the nuclear support management department as the nuclear reactors supply chain management director. He was a member of the Williams Grove Steam Engine Association and South Mountain Repeater Association (SMRA) where he served as president from 1996 to 2001. Bob loved playing guitar and had a passion for gardening, especially tending to his sunflowers and tulips. He was a ham radio operator since the age of 21; and he also knew how to run a steam engine and tractor. Bob was a mentor to his grandson and his entire family will miss him very much.
All are welcome to join Bob’s family at his viewing on Friday, March 18, 2016, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Donald L. Mains, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Trindle Spring Cemetery in Mechanicsburg, where military honors will be presented. Honored to be pallbearers are: Gavin, Adam, Cody, John, Shane, and Travis. Bob’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Hoss's Steak & Sea House in Mechanicsburg following the burial.
