Robert “Bob” Leon Cassel, Jr.
Just a Hell of a Guy -
Robert “Bob” Leon Cassel, Jr., age 66, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, October 24, 2016. Bob was born on Wednesday, September 27, 1950 in Harrisburg to the late Robert Leon Cassel, Sr. and Patricia Ann Audrey (Lerch) Cassel. Bob was the widower of Diane Marie (Clouser) Cassel, whom he married on December 10, 1971, and who died on January 13, 2001. In addition to his parents and wife, Bob is preceded in death by his son, Robert Leon Cassel, III.
Bob’s survivors include his three children: Jason Cassel and his son, Corbin Lee Cassel, of Mechanicsburg, Cortney Cassel and her daughter, Alyssa Rynard, of Mechanicsburg, Michael Cassel of Shiremanstown; his brother, Dennis Cassel and his wife, Tina, of Carlisle; his sister, Barb Spurlock Tinkey and her husband, Barry, of Mechanicsburg.
Bob graduated from Mechanicsburg High School. He retired from the New Cumberland Army Depot after 35 years of faithful service. Over many years, Bob was a member of various area car clubs as well as the American Legion. His love of 1957 Chevy’s is well known as is the fact that no one was allowed to so much as touch his pride and joy convertible and hard top which he proudly drove around town. What some people might not know is that Bob worked on cars his entire life and even had a car repair business on the side. As much as Bob was known for his cars, his defining characteristics were his heart of gold, his incredible work ethic, his absolute honesty, and his abundant generosity. Bob was well liked by everyone that he encountered and had a great relationship with those around him; some of his friends and coworkers even called him "Stubby". As his son, Michael, phrases it, “He was just a hell of a guy.” Bob loved his family above all else and he did anything and everything to provide for and protect his children.
All are welcome to join Bob’s family at his viewing on Saturday, October 29, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. until time of remembrance, when guests will be invited to share their stories and memories of Bob, at 2:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
