“Peddler of Fine Furniture”
Robert “Bob” L. Cody, 85, of Mechanicsburg, although in relatively good health, died unexpectedly after a short illness on Friday, April 29, 2011 at Holy Spirit Hospital. He was born on Wednesday, July 15, 1925 in Chicago, IL the son of the late Ray V. and Evelyn (Stanton) Crankshaw. He married Betty Jane Streling on July 9, 1949.
Bob graduated from Paw Paw High School in Michigan as part of the class of 1943 and then from Western Michigan University in 1950. He was an Army Veteran of WWII having served in the 82
nd
Airborne Glider Division. He took part in the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of Ludwigslust Concentration Camp.
He was a “Peddler of Fine Furniture” having founded, owned and operated, for more than 30 years, Cody Associates, Inc. who served as a manufacturer’s representative for such companies as: Jasper Desk, Jasper Seating, Lee Metal Products, Schwab Safe, Superior Chair Craft, Master Caster and Borroughs Manufacturing to name a few. He retired in 1992.
Bob was a hobby locksmith and loved animals of all kinds. He was a Volksmarcher (the people’s walk), a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow, a Free Mason of Michigan – Wenona Lodge #256 and a charter member of the 82

Airborne Division Association. He was a member of the: Tall Cedars in Lebanon, VFW, American Legion, Masons and since 1967 the Camp Hill United Methodist Church. He was a foster parent to many children who were “all great kids”.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 61 years: Betty Jane Cody; his daughter: Janet E. Blough and her husband Steve of Apex, NC; two granddaughters and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons: Robert “Bob” L. Cody, Jr. and Michael “Mike” J. Cody.
