Rev. Robert (Bob) Everett Germond, 83, of Mechanicsburg , and formerly of Binghamton, NY , died at Bethany Village on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. He was born in Binghamton, on Monday, February 3, 1930, son of the late Everett Daniel Germond and Cecelia (Jeavons) Germond. Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Margaret “Peg” (Dougherty) Germond.
Bob’s survivors include his loving daughters, Wendy Germond of NY, Julie Hart and her husband Scott of PA, and Tracy Brooks of MD. PopPop will be missed by his three grandchildren, Megan Germond, Benjamin Hart, and Bradley Hart with whom he delighted in spending time. He is also survived by his sisters, Helen VanKuren, Marilyn Kavanaugh and her husband Jim, Shelia Dalke and her husband Bob; and many extended family members. Among those preceding Bob in death are his brother, David Germond.
Bob graduated from North High School in Binghamton, NY Drew University and Theological Seminary in Madison, NJ. He served as a United Methodist pastor at churches in Northeast PA and upstate NY for over 40 years. Bob also served as a District Superintendent, Dean of the Cabinet, and Conference Administrator. In retirement, he was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Enola. His love of youth ministry and community outreach enriched many lives Bob found joy and humor in everyday events. His optimistic outlook, smile and devotion to family and his church “families” will be greatly missed.
All are welcome to join Bob’s family at his visitation on Saturday, January 25, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Reverend Dr. Brand W. Eaton officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Alzheimer’s Association , Central Pennsylvania Chapter , 3544 North Progress Avenue Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
