Robert “Bob” Albert Gilmore, age 78, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of West Fairview, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 23, 2017.  Bob was born on Sunday, May 28, 1939 in Charleroi, PA to the late Robert Albert Gilmore, Sr. and Eva Marie (Castellano) Gilmore.  In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Gilmore and his wife, Carol.

Bob’s survivors include his wife, Dorothy “Dottie” Margaret (Fisher) Kelley, who he has been with for 16 years; his five sons: Robert “Bob” A. Gilmore and his wife, Susan, of West Fairview, PA, Shawn W. Gilmore and his wife, Lori Ann, of Seaford, DE, Richard M. Gilmore and his wife, Tina, of Dillsburg, PA, Patrick T. Gilmore and his wife, Alice, of Harrisburg, PA, Kevin R. Gilmore and his wife, Jennie, of Harrisburg, PA; his ten grandchildren; his four siblings: Richard Gilmore and his wife, Mary, of Florida, Arthur Gilmore and his wife, Chris, of Pennsylvania, Michael “Mike” Gilmore and his wife, Nancy, of Pennsylvania, Deborah “Debbie” Evert of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Bob graduated from Bentleyville High School as part of the class of 1957.  He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962.  Bob retired from the Naval Support Activity in Mechanicsburg, after almost 20 years of service working as a computer analyst.  He was a member of Young’s United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg as well as The American Legion Post 1001.  Bob enjoyed listening to country and bluegrass music, riding his motorcycle, hunting, and gardening.  He also liked watching Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune and the Pittsburgh Steelers play.  Bob had a love of horses which lead him to training and showing them for many years.  He liked to eat and reveled in any good home cooked meal.  Bob was the kind of man that was always willing to help and lend a listening ear.

All are welcome to join Bob’s family at his viewing on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Robert V. Bishard, Jr.  Burial will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, where military honors will be presented.  Honored to be pallbearers are Pastor Art Gilmore, Kevin Gilmore, Michael Gilmore, Nicholas Gilmore, Patrick Gilmore, Rich Gilmore, Robert Gilmore, Shawn Gilmore, and Shawn Gilmore.

The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania and everyone at West Shore Hospital who so lovingly cared for Bob during his illness.
