Robert “Bob” James Pittman

Passionate Cyclist -

Robert “Bob” James Pittman, age 71, of Mechanicsburg, died at home with his loving wife by his side on Monday, March 19, 2018.  Bob was born on Monday, April 1, 1946 in Pottsville to the late Adolph Anthony Pittman and Katheryn Agnes (Rogers) Pittman.  In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his brother.

Bob’s survivors include his wife, Carolyn Ann (Landis) Pittman; his two sisters: Carole Pittman and Kathy Rinda; his two daughters: Cheryl Gruver, Tracey Rooney; and his three grandchildren.

Bob was raised in a small town in northern Pennsylvania, New Philadelphia.  He was known in his small town as the owner of the 1961 kelly green Corvette.  He began to learn his trade from his father and ended up working more than 40 years as an electrician.  The last 30 years of his professional career he worked for HEIM Electric, frequently serving as foreman on important jobs in Harrisburg and the surrounding area.  He retired seven years ago, and chose a Cervélo road bike rather than a rocking chair for his retirement.  Cycling was Bob’s great passion which he encouraged others to adopt as well.  He has spent the last 15 years of his life with his wife, Carolyn Landis-Pittman, in his home in Mechanicsburg, which he loved and worked on tirelessly to make his own.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a time of his wife’s choosing.

Bob would want to assure his friends that once energy exists, it never dies.  So he says, “On a bright sunny day when you’re out on a meandering country road or shouting for joy as you descend a hill at 50 miles per hour, I’ll be with you.”

Bob’s family has entrusted his care to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read Bob’s full obituary, view his memorial portrait, and sign his official guest book at Buhrig.com.
