Robert Owen Reed
Robert Owen Reed, 75, of Hampden Township, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
Bob was born on September 1, 1946 in Rochester, NY and graduated from the city’s East High School. In the summer of 1964, he met Nancy while both were camp counselors at Camp Vick; they married in 1969. Bob enlisted in the US Army and worked on Pershing missiles in Germany while serving as a Specialist 5 (E-5) in the 41st Field Artillery Brigade. Upon returning to the United States, Bob completed his Bachelors Degree in electrical engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology.
Bob worked as a manufacturing representative at several companies before owning Protech Controls Systems. Bob was a visionary and had curiosity for how things worked. In 1989, he built the first indoor ice rink on the east side of Rochester. It brought him great joy to see over 700 youth participating in Perinton youth hockey. His love for building continued into serving their church with sanctuary and roof renovations and in remodeling both their Fairport, NY and Camp Hill, PA homes to provide beautiful additions that looked out into the yards. Regardless of the size of the project, Bob was quick to offer his time and talent to help others.
Bob and Nancy have two beautiful daughters, Sarah and Cynthia. Bob loved family time and over the years, the family enjoyed many vacations together. Bob prayed regularly for his family to know the Lord and rejoiced when both girls professed faith in Jesus Christ. As each daughter married and the family grew, Bob enjoyed time at both their homes, playing games, making meals, working on various home improvement projects, or just talking with the families. Family time was always a great priority for him. When not with family, Bob and Nancy enjoyed traveling the world together, visiting 48 states and over 50 countries.
Bob was known for his gift of both hospitality and care and was always looking for ways to serve and bless others. Many family members and friends have been blessed by receiving his assistance in home repairs or improvements and many others have enjoyed the handmade gifts they have received from his talent and enjoyment of woodworking.
Bob’s walk with the Lord was of utmost importance to him. He volunteered his time for Emmaus in the 90’s, served at various churches as a deacon and trustee, and participated in weekly group Bible studies over the years. He loved to think about the wonders of our Lord and Savior and desired that those whom he met would love and know Jesus.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy Gay Reed; his two daughters, Sarah Winkler (and her husband, Troy) of Knoxville, TN and Cynthia LeClair (and her husband, Benjamin, of Enola); his eight grandchildren: Daniel, Kate, Micah, Christa, Grace, Owen, Levi, and Noah; his sister Jean Blakley, of Denver, CO; several nieces and nephews; and Joanne Kennedy (and her husband David), an exchange student from Northern Ireland that became family.
Family and friends will be received for a memorial service on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Chapel, 702 Lisburn Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011. Bob will be buried with military honors at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at a private family ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to his church at the address above or www.ccharrisburg.org/online-giving.
