Robert “Bob” Craig Shumberger, Sr.

Robert “Bob” Craig Shumberger, Sr., 80, of Boiling Springs died unexpectedly on Monday, May 16, 2011 at home. He was born on Tuesday, June 10, 1930 in Carlisle the son of the late Lee William and Marie (Ahlers) Shumberger. He married his sweetheart, Mildred Victoria Weber, on April 9, 1955.

Bob graduated from Boiling Springs High School as part of the class of 1948. He served in the National Guard of Pennsylvania and as a reservist of the US Army and the National Guard of the United States. He was a long-time member of Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church; a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1971 and a member of Supreme Lodge Knights of Pythias for over 52 years. He retired in 1992 from McCoy Electronics Co. after almost 30 years of service.

Bob’s father was the first Principal at Monroe Elementary School. There are many stories told of Bob’s pranks and amateur weather forecasting abilities. He always loved a good prank and seemed constantly in touch with the weather. He enjoyed gardening and was, above all, a family man.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 56 years: Mildred Victoria Weber Shumberger; four sons and one daughter: Bobby Shumberger of Boiling Springs, Tammy Shumberger of Mechanicsburg, Keith Shumberger of Boiling Springs, Curtis Shumberger and his fiancé Rae Ann of Mechanicsburg, Kevin Shumberger and his wife Lora of Dillsburg; four grandchildren: Joshua, Corey, Joel, Caitlyn; three brothers and two sisters: Jim Shumberger of Shippensburg, Paul Shumberger of Mechanicsburg, Tom Shumberger of Mechanicsburg, Freida Kann of Shippensburg, Amy Moore of Harrisburg and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters: Jack Shumberger, Bill Shumberger, Anna Mae Hall and Lois Chronister.

All are welcome to join Bob’s family at his viewing on Thursday, 5/20/11, from 6:00 to 8:00 and on Friday, 5/20/11, from 10:00 until time of service at 10:30 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055, (717) 766-3421, www.Myers-Buhrig.com . Pastor Doris Nolan will officiate and burial will immediately follow in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
