Loved his Last Concert -

Robert Thad Carr, 80, of Mechanicsburg , died at home and surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, November 7, 2012.  He was born in Ohio on Wednesday, March 23, 1932, son of the late Carl Marcus Carr , Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth (Liggitt) Carr , who died in 1935, and Hazel (Wilcox) Carr, his step-mother. Thad was the husband of Erma (Lingle) Carr whom he married on June 6, 1954.

Thad graduated from University of Findlay in 1954 and from the University of Toledo in 1959 with his Masters in Education.  After 32 years of service as an educator, he retired as principal of West Branch Elementary School in Morrisdale, PA. Education was of great importance to him and he was proud of his children’s academic accomplishments.

After retiring he became a Certified Lay Pastor serving the Huntingdon Presbytery.  Thad was a member of Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and a beloved teacher and mentor of the Men’s Fellowship Group .

Music was an extremely important part of Thad’s life, especially classical music.  On October 7, 2012, Thad’s grandsons and daughter took him to the Harrisburg Symphony for his “last concert”.  He loved to travel and enjoyed visiting every state capital with his wife, Erma, all by motor home except Honolulu. Thad will be greatly missed.

Thad’s survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Erma (Lingle) Carr; his four children, Caryn J. Carr and her husband Donald E Grell, II of Carlisle, Robert Thad Carr II and his wife Rebecca of South Carolina, Randal A. Carr and his wife Susan of Maryland, Margaret C. Upton and her husband Clark of Virginia; his brother, Carl Marcus Carr, Jr. of Ohio; his seven grandchildren, Jeff Carr, Jeniffer Bowen, James Carr, Peter Carr, Kevin Carr, Marcus Upton, Ellen Upton; his six great grandchildren, Abby, Andrew, Brianna, Grayson, Kyle, Robert “Bobby”; and several nieces and nephews.  Among those preceding Thad in death are his brother, David Carr; and his sister, Mary Margaret Carr.

All are welcome to join Thad’s family at his visitation on Monday, November 12, 2012, from 10:00 until time of service at 11:00 at Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church , 300 East Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Pastor Myrtle E. McCall officiating.  Thad’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church immediately following the service.  Burial will follow the reception in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Jeff Carr, James Carr, Peter Carr, Kevin Carr, Marcus Upton and Andrew Hale.
