Ronald “Ron” Robert Shuey
“Genuinely Good Man” -
Ronald “Ron” Robert Shuey, 76, of Mechanicsburg , died at Holy Spirit Hospital on Friday, June 21, 2013. He was born in Tremont, on Tuesday, April 20, 1937 son of the late Charles Robert Shuey and Marion Celia (Miller) Shuey. Ron was the husband of Louise Ann (Bauer) Shuey whom he married on July 2, 1995.
Ron’s survivors include his loving wife of almost 18 years, Louise; his children, Allan B. Shuey and his wife Angela of AL, Amy E. Brida and her husband Charles of Etters, David J. Garell and his wife Michelle of Lafayette Hills, Jennifer G. Penwell and her husband Stephen of CT; his grandchildren, Tyler Shuey, Zachary Shuey, Whitney Shuey, Isabella Brida, Elizabeth Brida, his great-grandson, Montgomery Cagle; his brothers, John Shuey and his wife Leslie of Tower City, Bruce Shuey of Millersburg; and a niece, Joann Bent. Among those preceding Ron in death is his sister, Judy Dietrich.
Ron graduated from Porter Township High School as part of the class of 1955. He earned his bachelor’s degree from East Stroudsburg University and his master’s degree from Temple University . Ron retired from the West Shore School District , after 37 years of service. He was a principal and teacher at several elementary schools including, Newberry , Fishing Creek , Highland , Herman Avenue , and Washington Heights . Ron was a talented water color artist, and a member of the Keystone Capital Chorus . He was a charter member of Saint Peter Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, and very active in teaching Sunday school and bible studies in the church. Ron was an avid fisherman, gifted story teller and was a “Genuinely Good Man”.
All are welcome to join Ron’s family at his Gathering of Family and Friends, on Saturday, June 29, 2013, from 10:00 – 10:45 and his Memorial Service at 11:00 at Saint Peter Lutheran Church , 130 Nittany Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Pastor Naomi Sease Carriker officiating.
Cremation and burial of his urn in Memorial Garden at Saint Peter Lutheran Church will be private and at the family’s convenience. Ron’s family invites everyone to wear brightly colored attire and to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church following the memorial service.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Harmony Foundation International, Inc. (direct toward youth program) , 110 Seventh Avenue North , Suite 200, Nashville, TN 37203, Easter Seal Society , 1426 North 3rd Street, Suite 150, Room 107, Harrisburg, PA 17102 , and his church, Saint Peter Lutheran.
