Ronald “Ron” S. Swigert, Sr.
A Man of Great Faith
Ronald “Ron” S. Swigert, Sr., age 76, of Mechanicsburg, passed awaypeacefully at Holy Spirit Hospital on Monday, January 18, 2016. Ron was born on Monday, August21, 1939 in Carlisle, to the late Wilbur H. Swigert and Beulah (Graham) Swigert. In addition to his parents, Ron is preceded in death by his brother John W. Swigert.
Ron’s survivors include his close friend of many years, Jean L. Seymore; his three children: Linda Woltz and her husband, Roger, of Shippensburg, Nancy Epley and her husband, William, of Carlisle; Ronald Swigert, Jr. of Port Orchard, WA; his four grandchildren: Aaron, Eric, Shawn, Savannah;and several nieces and nephews.
Ron graduated from Carlisle High School as part of the class of 1959 and completed various courses with ICS that prepared him for a career in industrial engineering. He was employed with Carlisle Tire & Wheel from 1958 until 1992. This employment enabled him to do much traveling all over the United States. After retiring from the Carlisle plant, Ron enjoyed many different jobs, one of which was opening and managing a deli on the West Shore. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service, and became a private contractor for Fed Ex and was a licensed real estate agent. Most recently, he was employed with Lawrence Chevrolet of Mechanicsburg and the Harrisburg Auto Auction as a driver. Ron had a strong committed work ethic, which he continued even into his later years. As a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Camp Hill, Ron served faithfully as an usher. He was also a media member of the Family Worship Center and he was previously a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Carlisle. Ron also taught Sunday school classes in his earlier years. He was involved as a Scout Leader in the Bloserville area in Cumberland County. He also volunteered working with the elderly at Messiah Village.
All are welcome to join Ron’s family at his viewing on Tuesday, January26, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating. Burial will follow in Westminster Cemetery in Carlisle.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association,1019 Mumma Road,Wormleysburg, PA 17043.
