Ronald “Butch” Edgar Smith
Ronald “Butch” Edgar Smith, age 80, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023. Butch was born on Sunday, September 6, 1942, in Danville to the late Charles Edgar Smith and Catherine Mildred (Nevius) Smith. In addition to his parents, Butch is preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Barton.
Butch’s survivors include his wife of 30 years, Cindy Marie (Lenker) Smith; his three daughters: Kimberly Harrell and her wife, Martie Soper, of Alexandria, VA; Tracy Yoder and her husband, Bill, of Lancaster; Nikole McCormick of Hummelstown; his seven grandchildren: Jacob Harrell and his wife, Meagan; Collin Harrell; David Cook, III; Leah Cook; Ryan McCormick; Carson McCormick; Lila McCormick; his two sisters: Jane Rishel and Jill Yerger; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Butch graduated from Danville High School and served our country as Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. The Marines were very important to him and he was extremely proud to be one. He was a member of the Newport American Legion Post #177 and retired from L.B. Smith Ford in Lemoyne, after over 30 years of service working as a parts manager. Butch was artistic in many mediums including painting, drawing and model building. He enjoyed Penn State football, playing golf and especially loved going out to breakfast with his wife, Cindy. A fun loving man, Butch had a way of making people feel special and always brought laughter into their lives. More than anything else, Butch deeply loved his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Butch’s family will be celebrating his life privately.
