Roy Eugene Prescott
A Kind and Loving Man -
Roy Eugene Prescott, age 89, of Mechanicsburg passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. Roy was born at home in Bainbridge, PA, on May 11, 1931 to Walter Prescott and Estella (Smith) Prescott.
He had a happy childhood in Bainbridge, and graduated from Donegal High School in Mount Joy, PA. He joined the US Navy and served from 1950-1954. After his discharge, he attended Penn State University, where he graduated with a degree in Dairy Science. At Penn State he met his future wife, Gail Gilman, and they wed upon their graduation, on June 28, 1958. They remained married until Gail’s death in 2015. For many years Roy was a salesman in the dairy foods industry, first working for Germantown Manufacturing Company, then as an independent sales representative. He always said how much he loved his work, and he looked forward every day to going out and meeting with his customers. Many of his customers became lifelong friends. Roy was a member of Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, Bainbridge Church of God, and finally the Mechanicsburg First Church of God. He sang in the choir at Penn State and also in the choirs of the churches to which he belonged, often as a soloist. His faith was central to his life, and he was a warm, kind-hearted, loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Roy is survived by many. First, his sisters and brother: Dottie Kuntzelman of Elizabethtown, PA; Joyce Miller of Newark, OH; Nancy Kaufman of Bainbridge, PA; and Richard Prescott of Mount Joy, PA. He is also survived by his and Gail’s three children: Karen Prescott Dalby, Cindy Prescott Kuster, and Stephen Lloyd Prescott, and their seven children. In addition, he is survived by the six Vietnamese children he and Gail took in, and who became part of the family: Le Thi Thanh Bach; Ngan Thi Vu; Le Quang Sang; Le Quang Sang (Scott); Le Quang Dien (Dave); and Jeanne (Nguyet) Le Kelly, and their six children. There were numerous others who called him “Dad,” and he loved and was loved by them all.
Roy always lived life with joy and thankfulness, and as such was an inspiration to others. He often noted over recent years that he was grateful for having a wonderful life and family, but that now he was looking forward to being in Heaven, and to being reunited with his beloved Gail-ee. His passing is sad for those who knew him, but a cause for celebration for him.
